1 t. sugar
1 1/2 C all purpose flour
6 T sweet butter
1 t yeast
1 t poppy seeds
1 T ghee (clarified butter)
2/3 C warm water
1 t salt
1. Mix yeast, sugar and water. Set aside for 10 minutes.
2.Place flour in bowl. Make well in center and add ghee, salt and yeast mixture. Mix well.
3. Knead for about 5 minutes.
4. Cover and let rise for 1 1/2 hour, or double in size.
5. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead for a further 2 minutes.
6. Break off small balls with your hand and pat them into rounds about 5' in diameter and 1/2 inch thick.
7.Place dough rounds on a greased sheet of foil and broil under a very hot preheated broiler for 7-10 minutes, turning twice and brushing with the butter and sprinkling with poppy seeds.
8. Serve warm immediately, or keep wrapped in foil until required.
Make sure that your oven is really hot before you put the first dough in to make them more authentic. Makes 6-8
